چکیده

This paper addresses contact sensing, i.e. the problem of resolving the location of a contact, the force at the interface and the moment about the contact normals is presented. Called \intrinsic" contact sensing for the use of internal force and torque measurements, this method allows for practical devices which provide simple, relevant contact information in practical robotic applications. Such sensors have been Antonio Bicchi is now with the 1 used in conjunction with robot hands to identify objects, determine surface friction, detect slip, augment grasp stability, measure object mass, probe surfaces, control collision and a variety of other useful tasks. This paper describes the theoretical basis for their operation and provides a framework for future device design.

Microfluidic tactile sensors for three-dimensional contact force measurements.

A microfluidic tactile sensing device has been first reported for three-dimensional contact force measurement utilizing the microfluidic interfacial capacitive sensing (MICS) principle. Consisting of common and differential microfluidic sensing elements and topologically micro-textured surfaces, the microfluidic sensing devices are intended not only to resolve normal mechanical loads but also t...

Design, Modeling, and Construction of a New Tactile Sensor for Measuring Contact-Force

This paper presents the design, modeling, and testing of a flexible tactile sensor and its applications. This sensor is made of polymer materials and can detect the 2D surface texture image and contact-force estimation. The sensing mechanism is based on the novel contact deflection effect of a membrane. We measure the deflection of the membrane with measuring the strain in the membrane with emb...

Realtime State Estimation with Tactile and Visual Sensing for Inserting a Suction-held Object

We develop a real-time state estimation system to recover the pose and contact formation of an object relative to its environment. In this paper, we focus on the application of inserting an object picked by a suction cup into a tight space, an enabling technology for robotic packaging. We propose a framework that fuses force and visual sensing for improved accuracy and robustness. Visual sensin...

Determination of Manipulator Contact Information from Joint Torque Measurements

Measurements of the net forces acting on a structure can provide information necessary to determine the location of contacts through which the external forces act, under appropriate assumptions. One practical application of this idea resulted in the contact-resolving force-sensing n-gertips developed by Salisbury and Brock. These ngertip sensors employ a 6-axis force sensor under a ngertip shel...

A Three-Dimensional Shape-Based Force and Stiffness-Sensing Platform for Tendon-Driven Catheters

This paper presents an efficient shape-based three-axial force and stiffness estimator for active catheters commonly implemented in cardiac ablation. The force-sensing capability provides important feedback for catheterization procedures including real-time control and catheter steering in autonomous navigation systems. The proposed platform is based on the introduced accurate and computational...
